Sorry, the pics suck...it's hard to take photos of the back of your arm with a cell phone.

Btw the tat is nice. Did I ever tell you my tatoo story?

So me and my girlfriend were walking down Venice Beach one day and we passed a tattoo shop. I said 'You should get a tattoo of my name, it'll be awesome!' And she agreed. So we go in, she winces through the whole thing but by the time the tat is done, she is so proud of herself. So we walk outside the place and she asks me, 'So why did you want me to get a tattoo?' I reply, 'I wanted you to have something to remember me by.' I walked away and never spoke to her again.

I'm gonna say, right of the bat, the cross thing looks ALOT like the priest's fort buff symbol.

The dimensionality of the cross is really nice. Is the angel Michael? I've always wanted a small tattoo that is self-designed but I always change my mind about what it should be, so I've never had one done. I've been sketching different ones for 8 yrs. Lol, I see the kitty wanted to be in the picture! :D

Well as one of LoK's resident tattoo whores I must say I am very impressed with that piece. the cross is absolutely beautiful. I need to get a few pics of my ink up on facebook. Tattooing is my favorite addiction. I have pieces on every one of my extremities and I want more. Its not that unlikely that I may end up sleeving out my right arm... It would be awesome I thnk..

Yah, I believe it is a depiction of the Angel Michael. I need to find out from my artist the name of the actual painting he is using for inspiration. I find painting very similar, but not quite the same.

Sadly, I have no artistic ability...so I just had a base idea and let my artist worry about the rest. I absolutely love his work, so I had complete confidence he'd make me happy. I can't wait till my next session so we can get some work done on Michael. I'm a big fan of letting a great artist do his thing, and giving him a long leash. I wouldn't want to tell Picasso how to paint.

There is a link to some of his posted work. Sadly, some of my favorite pieces are not online. All my buddies stuff is insane for example....but very not PG. lol.

Yah Val, I'd love to see your work. I'm a HUGE fan of ink. To me, it seems as personal as you can get with art. Takes a lot of dedication and pain to put it on your body. (BTW, hell yah it hurts, but it's nothing anyone can't get through.) So, seeing what other people have and the reasons why they chose the pieces they did is really interesting to me.

The word masochist has come up quite a few times when I talk about tattoos. People I know that have them talk about things like you did... the pain and commitment of the whole thing... to me.. well lets put it this way... one time while getting the big piece I have on my leg done the artist had to wake me up from my nap to have me turn my hip so he could get to the back side of the tattoo.

It is my zen place. I find the experience calming and relaxing.

This isn't all of my ink but enough to get you started...

The piece on my left arm that isn't fresh is a tribal Phoenix rising from the flames with the initials for my cousin Chad who was killed in a car accident 3 days after his 18th birthday. The other names on the cross are my sons names Jason (5) and Michael (3). I have left the option of something like a halo containing another child's name should I ever decide that is something I am interested in.. But I have toyed with the idea of adding an aura behind it similar to what you ended up with rik...
